Sunglasses are as much about your personal style as they are about protecting your eyes from the harmful rays of Mexico’s sun.
If you’re looking for a pair of sunglasses for your next visit to Mexico, in this blog we will give you some recommendations. You should already know brunch glasses, they’re going to be very different from the sunniest you wear out for the beach.
The styling of sports sunglasses, for example, tends to be a bit too extreme for everyday wear. Pick accordingly, and don’t be afraid to get two pairs. Taking care of them will make them last longer.
What do I have to consider?
In recent years, designers have increasingly turned to iconic shapes like the Aviator, old-school and minimalistic designs. There are also modern looks, of course. As a general rule, look for frame shapes that are the opposite of your face shape. If your face is round, choose blocky or rectangular frames; if you have a square jaw, choose round or oval frames. You can find just the right frames for your next trip to Nuevo Vallarta or Playa del Carmen if you do a little searching online, anyway it is good to consider buying them until you try them.
Beach colored lenses are more than just a trend. In fact, they can help you enjoy the summer in ways that are most enjoyable for you. For example pink or red lenses increase visual contrast in bright outdoor settings, and improve depth perception. The lens you choose should be of good quality. Make sure, however, that your glasses are UV-protective. Not all lenses offer this protection. Most good quality lenses will have a label indicating their ability to protect you from UV rays. Considering this information is good to know in Playa del Carmen for example, from March through September the UV Index is 11. October and February are 9. November is 8. January and December are 7.
Another compelling reasons to always wear sunglasses:
The protection from blue light. Long-term exposure to the blue and violet portions of the solar spectrum has been linked to an increased risk of macular degeneration, particularly in “sun sensitive” people.
Cancer of the skin. Cancer of the eyelids and surrounding skin is a rather prevalent type of cancer. Sunglasses are one approach to help guard against skin cancer when you’re outside in the sun.
And finally the adaptation to the dark. Did you know that just two or three hours in direct sunshine can impair your eyes’ capacity to swiftly adapt to changing light conditions at night? As a result, driving at night after a day at the beach can be more dangerous than it has to be.
Sunglasses are available at almost every price point in Mexico, so you can spend as much or as little as you like. What is our recommendation? Choose a pair that is both functional and attractive to you so that wearing them becomes a (fun/good) habit. Of course, if you’re prone to losing them, spending a lot of money might not be the greatest option.
